Local residents can have their question about the upcoming budget process answered this week, by attending a town hall meeting Monday evening.
The session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5501 U.S. Highway 69 South in Greenville, and is designed to provide information on who is responsible for local tax dollars, what services the taxes support and why the services are necessary.
The Greenville City Council usually begins conducting budget workshop meetings during the summer, to begin crafting the next fiscal year’s budget. A budget and tax rate must be passed by the start of the fiscal year on October 1.
The current City of Greenville budget is funded through the a property tax rate of 69.9 cents per $100 valuation, unchanged from the previous fiscal year. The budget included several cuts but increased by 50 percent the amount the city will spend on maintaining local streets.
