Park Street Christmas events scheduled

GREENVILLE — One Greenville neighborhood has become known each Christmas season for having some of the most brightly decorated homes, as well as several  of the city’s most anticipated holiday events.

Today’s Herald-Banner Brunch section offers details on the Park Street Tour of Homes, scheduled between 3 and 7 p.m. December 7.

But the tour is just one of the events scheduled for this year’s Christmas on Park Street, which will again include horse drawn wagon rides, lanterns and lots and lots of Christmas lights.

The Wagon Rides are scheduled between 6 and 9 p.m. December 13-14 and 20-21 and offer a leisurely tour of one of the city’s most elaborately lighted areas. The rides start from the parking lot of Park Street Baptist Church.

The annual Park Street Lantern Parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. December 14. Participants often dress in Victorian costumes during the pedestrian and/or equestrian event, but are not required to.

James Narramore, known locally as “The Whistler” will also be providing his unique version of Christmas music from the front porch of his Park Street residence as the wagons pass by.

All proceeds collected during the events go to the Park Street Historical Association, in a cooperative effort with the City of Greenville, to pay for historic street lights in the neighborhood. The Association began the effort in late 2011 because the existing lights along Park Street are too high and are not placed evenly, making some areas too dark and others too bright.
