Indictment issued in local pipe bomb case

Bostick charged in Nov. 9 incident

GREENVILLE — A Hunt County man has been indicted for allegedly carrying a pipe bomb in his vehicle earlier this month.

Gregory Clyde Bostick, 46, of Quinlan, was indicted Friday by the Hunt County grand jury, as it met for the next to last session of its current term.

Bostick received one indictment for possession of a prohibited  weapon. A date for an arraignment on the charge was not immediately scheduled.

Bostick was arrested late on the night of November 9, after officers found a pipe bomb in his sport utility vehicle. An officer with the Royse City Police Department had stopped the SUV in the 7000 block of FM 35 due to the vehicle having expired license plates.

The Garland Police Department Bomb Squad did not risk moving the pipe bomb from the floorboard of the automobile. Instead they chose to detonate the bomb – in place – inside the vehicle.

Residents of two homes within 300 yards of the bomb scene were evacuated. Traffic also was blocked on FM 2642 north of the scene and at an undetermined location south of the scene.

The panel returned 56 indictments, including 12 charges issued sealed pending the arrest and arraignment of the person or persons named in the indictments.

The term of the current grand jury, which considers evidence in felony cases for consideration by the 354th District Court, runs through the end of the year.

A new grand jury will be seated in January, to begin serving a six-month term serving the 196th District Court.
