Vice-president Bob Brown honored with award

COMMERCE — Bob Brown of Texas A&M University-Commerce has been honored by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers.

Brown, vice president for business and administration at A&M-Commerce, received the SACUBO 2007 Distinguished Service Award for service to the organization and his profession.

He was presented the award at the President's Dinner during the SACUBO Annual Conference April 19 in New Orleans.

Brown said he considered the award to be a highlight of his career. "This recognition is significant to me because it resulted from a vote of my peers in higher education business administration," he remarked.

"SACUBO has been a key player in my growth and development as a business officer," Brown said. "I am thankful to my wife, Carol, for supporting my being away from home to participate in SACUBO, and in the organizations supporting my profession."

Brown has been a vice president at A&M-Commerce for two years. Previously, he served as vice chancellor of business affairs at the Dallas County Community College District for nine years. During this time, Brown was interim president of Eastfield College for five months.

He has also served as vice chancellor of district services and chief financial officer for the North Harris Montgomery Community College District in Houston.

Some of his other awards include National Outstanding Chief Business Officer Award from the Community College Business Offices at the 1996 International Conference and Innovator of the Year for 1990 at El Centro College.

A CPA, Brown earned bachelor and master of business administration degrees at the University of North Texas. He has also completed the College Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky.
