Texas A&M University-Commerce athletic department hosts All-Sports Banquet

COMMERCE The Texas A&M University-Commerce athletic department honored its student-athletes, student trainers and seniors at the annual All-Sports Banquet on Thursday night.

A&M-Commerce men’s senior golfer Pinkey Hartline received the Dr. Jesse Hawthorne Award and senior women’s basketball player Britney Jordan was presented with the Lib Huggins Award as the top male and female athletes.

Hartline and Jordan earned the award on the basis of athletic ability, leadership, scholarship and service.

The Charles Goodall Award, an added honor to the banquet this year, was presented to wide receiver Taylor Fore for his efforts in the community.

For the team individual honors, each coach came to the front and handed the student-athletes their awards.

Senior DeUndrae Spraggins garnered the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award for men’s basketball, senior Rashad Brown and junior Ronnie Morgan each notched defensive player awards and junior Cardell Hunter was the recipient of the Terry Allen award.

Head women’s basketball coach Denny Downing recognized Jordan with the most outstanding women’s basketball honor, and chose senior Nola Taylor as the recipient of the Susie Knause Award.

Junior Tyler Tyndell and sophomore Kate Donovan were selected as the men and women’s Most Outstanding Cross Country Student-Athletes, and seniors La’Shara Jefferson and Leslie White received most outstanding recognition for men and women’s track and field.

Football honored senior Ricky Hope with the Bobby Fox Award, senior Darron Sheppard with the Ernest Hawkins Award and senior Andrew Gamboa with the J.V. Sikes Award.

Seniors Ali Tanner, Jamie Gililland, Blake Worden and Hartline all were selected for the men and women’s golf awards. Tanner and Gililland claimed the Margo Harbison Award, and Hartline and Worden each took the Boley Crawford Award.

Junior Meagan Lasley garnered the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award for soccer, and junior Perla Faudoa notched the most outstanding award for volleyball.

Elaine Morris represented the cheerleading squad with her most outstanding honor, and student athletic trainer Tim Neal received the Delmer Brown Scholarship.

Junior soccer forward Lacy Alexander earned the top Women’s GPA Award, senior cross country runner Logan Kelly and junior runner Anthony Tosie claimed the Men’s GPA Award, and the Men’s Cross Country Team earned the best team GPA honor with their work in the classroom.

After all the individual awards were presented, the senior student-athletes were also recognized with plaques for their efforts at A&M-Commerce.
