American Horn Quartet performing March 9 AT A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE — The internationally known American Horn Quartet will present a concert at Texas A&M University-Commerce on Monday, March 9.

The free concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Music Building. The public is invited to attend this event sponsored by the A&M-Commerce Music Department.

The American Record Guide has called the American Horn Quartet the "finest brass chamber ensemble in the world."

With nine CDs out and performances throughout the U.S. and all over the world, the quartet is starting its 2009 U.S. tour with a concert at A&M-Commerce.

The four Americans who compose the group -- David Johnson, Kerry Turner, Charles Putnam, and Geoffrey Winter -- have won numerous prizes as soloists at international music competitions in Europe and North America.

The quartet has won First Prizes at the Phillip Jones International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary in 1989, the NOTAMUS International Chamber Music Competition in Brussels in 1991, and the Seventh Tokyo International Chamber Music Competition in 1992.

Johnson teaches in Lugano, Switzerland and Turner plays in the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Putnam and Winter are members of the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn, Germany.
