1 dead, 3 injured after cement truck wreck

Associated Press

DALLAS A 41-year-old woman died and a 5-year-old was hospitalized after a cement truck flipped onto a sport-utility vehicle.

Dallas police say the cement truck driven by 31-year-old Edward Magallon vaulted a center barrier and landed on the SUV driven by Maria Angelica Gamez, who was killed immediately.

The child in her vehicle was taken to Children's Medical Center in Dallas in critical condition, police said shortly after the accident. Police have not yet identified the child.

Magallon told police he was traveling south on Texas 183 near Interstate 35E when he swerved to avoid another vehicle. That caused the truck to hit the center barrier and flip into the northbound lanes, where it struck a motorcycle and landed on top of the SUV.

Police Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse said shortly after the accident that the motorcyclist, 34-year-old Miguel Gutierrez, and Magallon were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Janse said later Friday that he did not have updates on the conditions of those hospitalized. Parkland did not have any information on Gutierrez or Magallon Friday evening.
