      New Boston ended Lone Oak’s run in the Class 2A basketball playoffs, handing the Buffaloes a 48-38 loss in the regional quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
      “Early we had too many turnovers,” said Lone Oak coach Matt McLaughlin.

      Greenville’s Lady Lions made up a lot of ground on Sulphur Springs but still couldn’t catch the Lady Wildcats in a District 19-4A soccer match on Monday night at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium.
      Sulphur Springs, which had whipped the Lady Lions 7-1 at Sulphur Springs on Feb. 7, won only 2-1 in the rematch in Greenville.

  • Lone Oak faces New Boston in third round of playoffs

      Lone Oak, which lost to New Boston in the bi-district round of the Class 2A football playoffs, gets another playoff crack at the Lions tonight in basketball.
      The two teams will battle in the 2A regional quarterfinals, starting at 7 p.m. at Paris High School.

  • Three basketball teams step up in playoffs

      Three local high school boys basketball teams will step up to the area round tonight after winning their bi-district games on Tuesday.
      Lone Oak, ranked 19th in Class 2A, will face Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill at 6 p.m. in Lindale. Lone Oak, also the District 14-2A champion, claimed its playoff game 58-28 over Palmer in Sunnyvale. Chapel Hill, the 15-2A runner-up, beat Hooks, 64-60.
      Bland will face Muenster at 7:30 p.m. in Anna in a Class A Division I area game. Bland won its bi-district playoff, 58-44 over Honey Grove. Muenster earned a first-round bye after winning the District 13-A title.
      Fannindel will face Miller Grove at 7:30 p.m. at Commerce High School in a Class A Division II game. Fannindel won its playoff game over Midway, 52-42. Miller Grove, ranked No. 9 in state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, earned a first-round bye after claiming the District 23-A championship.
