Lucas Lovejoy holds off Greenville Lady Lions, 45-43

GREENVILLE —   The Lucas Lovejoy Lady Leopards edged Greenville 45-43 on Friday night at the Lions Den in the Lady Lions’ District 13-4A home opener.

  Shani Rainey fired in 14 points for Lovejoy, while Samantha Odom banked in eight.

  Elizabeth Rutherford banked in 14 for Greenville, including three 3-point baskets, while Mackenzie Cooper and Maddy Crabtree added nine. Arian Alford tallied eight for the Lady Lions.

  Crabtree also finished with five steals, six rebounds and seven assists.

  Cooper led Greenville in rebounds with eight and handed out two assists.

  Alford also finished with two assists.

  Lovejoy outscored the Lady Lions 19-10 in the first quarter, then 10-9 in the second to grab a 29-19 halftime lead.

  Greenville had a strong third quarter, outscoring the Lady Leopards 18-10 to get within 39-37 after three quarters.

  The two teams each scored six apiece in the fourth, giving the Lady Leopards the two-point win.

Lucas Lovejoy is now 6-10 overall and 2-0 in district while Greenville is now 10-6 and 0-2.

  Greenville travels to Wylie Tuesday to take on the Lady Pirates.

  “Overall our team fought hard,” said Greenville coach Lesa Darst. “There were a few possessions that we didn’t capitalize on, which resulted in Lovejoy getting the advantage. We’re going to study our  film and get ready for Tuesday.”

Celeste (girls) 29

  WOLFE CITY — Michaela Burge hit a layup with about five seconds remaining to give the Wolfe City Lady Wolves a 31-29 District 15-A victory over Celeste on Friday.

  The loss ended a 15-game winning streak for Celeste, which dropped to 16-2 for the season and 1-1 in district play.

  Burge led the Lady Wolves with 12 points and Sarah Andrews chipped in 11.

  Morgan Lewis topped Celeste with 10 points.

  Hannah Fernandez led the victors with 10 points.

  Hannah Hopkins topped Caddo Mills with 10 points.

  LEONARD — The Leonard Tigers ran their season record to 18-3 with a 79-75 non-district win on Friday over Community.

  Storm Taylor stormed his way downcourt for 19 points to lead the victors, who also collected 16 from   Tyler “Turbo” Turner and 15 from Matthew Wilson.

  Chad Hutchinson gunned in 27 points to lead the Braves and all scorers, while Colton Hutchinson chipped in 15 and Chae Dexter added 13.

  Leonard will open District 12-2A play on Tuesday at Pilot Point.

  QUINLAN — Bland’s Lady Tigers breezed to a 33-10 District 15-A victory over Boles on Friday.

Savannah Brixey and Sara Waidelich both banked in 10 points to lead Bland.

Mineola 30

  MINEOLA — Klara Bradshaw, Rains’ 6-6 senior, finished with a triple-double to lead the Ladycats to a 45-30 District 14-3A win over Mineola on Friday.

  Bradshaw scored 22 points after going 9-of-10 from the field, plus pulled down 14 rebounds, blocked 22 shots and had five steals.

  Shye Meador-McCray also had nine points and three assists for Rains, which also collected six assists from Cortney Anderson.

  Jordan Dawson led Mineola with 12 points.

  Erik Jackson pumped in 20 for Rains, while Jacob Dowty fired in 18.

  Rivercrest raises its record to 13-1, while Rains falls to 3-12.

  QUINLAN — The Boles Hornets stayed undefeated at their own tournament as they won 57-31 over the Leonard junior varsity and 44-23 over the Celeste Blue Devils Friday.

  The Hornets, who are now 9-3 for the season and 4-0 in their tournament, will host the Leonard JV at 3:30 p.m. today.

  Against Leonard’s JV Caleb Samples fired in 16 points, while Cameron Walker banked in 14 and Hunter Jordan added 12 for the Hornets.

  In the Celeste game, Jordan fired in 16 points to lead the Hornets, while Bailey Isom tallied eight.

Fannindel defeated Rockwall Christian 59-53 in overtime and also downed Celeste, 36-34. Rockwall Christian defeated Leonard JV 51-48.
