McKinney North pulls away from Lady Lions

GREENVILLE —

  The McKinney North Lady Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits en route to an 8-1 victory over the Greenville Lady Lions Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field in District 13-4A softball action.

  McKinney North got things started in the first when Alli Lindsay reached on a fielder’s choice, followed by a Taylor McAllister double, a Faith Dixon double and a Celeste Verdolivo single that made it 3-0.

  Sidney Tippit hit a home run over the right field fence for Greenville to get the Lady Lions within 3-1.

The Lady Bulldogs put the game away in the top of the third, scoring five runs on eight hits to gain an 8-1 lead.

  Celeste Verdolivo got the mound win, striking out three for the Lady Bulldogs, who raised their season record to 8-2 and District 13-4A mark to 4-1.

Anna Morgan, who pitched for Greenville, struck out two.

  Elizabeth Rutherford managed two of Greenville’s three hits, including a double.

  “We did a good job at the plate,” said Greenville head coach Randy Pierce. “We didn’t capitalize on our base runners tonight. We had a lot of mental errors in the field. We must work hard in practice to eliminate mental errors.”

  Greenville, now 1-4 in district play, travels to Denison on Friday for games with the Lady Yellow Jackets junior varsity is at 5:30 followed by varsity at 7 p.m.

  McKinney North won the junior varsity game, 14-1.

Roxton (girls) 0

  WOLFE CITY — Wolfe City cruised to a 17-0 District 15-A softball victory over Roxton on Tuesday.

Taylor Woodruff blanked Roxton on only one hit while striking out 10.

  Sarah Andrews, Raven Armstrong, Shelby Greenway, Cheyanne Lake and Savannah Richardson all had two hits for the Lady Wolves, now 11-5 for the season and 3-1 in district play.

  MERIT — Bland stayed undefeated in District 16-A baseball with an 11-4 win over Campbell on Tuesday.

  Justin Hines struck out nine as the Tigers improved to 3-0 in district play.

  Dallas Degarso and Jacob Camp had two hits to lead Campbell.

  LEONARD — The Leonard Tigers won 8-3 over Van Alstyne Tuesday in District 12-2A baseball action.

  Ty McKinney took the mound win, striking out seven and walking four, while allowing only one earned run.

  Laine Albert finished up the game for the Tigers, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Walker Copeland led the Tigers at the plate with a 2-for-3 day. — Reported by Johnny McKinney.

  WINNSBORO — The Winnsboro Red Raiders edged the Lone Oak Buffaloes 1-0 Tuesday in District 14-2A baseball.

  Harrison Holt and Austyn Hooten were 1-for-3 at the plate for the Buffaloes.

  Jordan Ryan took the loss for Lone Oak on the mound despite eight strikeouts and only one walk.

  Luke Tebbetts took the mound win, striking out 15 while allowing only two hits.
