Celeste 27,

Honey Grove 7

CELESTE — The Celeste Blue Devils amassed 405 yards on the ground to secure a win in District 8-A against the Honey Grove Warriors on Friday night. The 27–7 win takes the Blue Devils to 2-1 in district play and all but secures a playoff bid.

The Blue Devils received the opening kick and ran 36 yards on 11 plays only to stall at the Warrior 30-yard line.

The Warriors opened up their bag of tricks on the first play of their possession. Warrior quarterback Jeremy Patt tossed the ball to running back Chance Barbee, who then hit wide open receiver Brandon Spann with a 70-yard catch and run for a Warriors touchdown. It was followed by a PAT kicked by Honey Grove kicker Josue Coronado.

It took a couple more possessions before the Blue Devils pulled it together and scored a touchdown on an eight play 69-yard drive in which running back Traylon Phillips pounded in the final yard. Kicker   Eddie Amaro missed the PAT and the Blue Devils trailed half way through the second quarter 7-6.

Blue Devils running back Keith Lynch ran the final 5 yards for the Blue Devils next touchdown with just 40 seconds left in the first half. The Blue Devils brought the score to 14–7 on a fake PAT two-point conversion pass from the holder Cody Evans to receiver Tim Herman.
