Farmersville’s district basketball champions will open the state playoffs tonight.
The Fightin’ Farmers, who earned a first-round bye with their District 12-2A title, will face District 9-2A runner-up Brock in an area playoff at 7:30 p.m. at Northwest High School in Justin. Brock, which finished second in 9-2A to Ponder, opened the playoffs with a 78-46 victory over Tolar.
Brock, 26-6 for the season, is fifth in the state rankings of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches while Farmersville is rated 19th.
The Farmersville-Brock winner advances to the regional quarterfinals to take on the winner of Friday’s playoff between Whitney and Leonard. That game is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Dallas Skyline High School after being moved from the Ellis Davis Fieldhouse.
Whitney earned a first-round bye with its District 10-2A championship.
Leonard, which was third in 12-2A behind Farmersville and Sunnyvale, opened the playoffs on Tuesday with a 68-42 win over Pottsboro. Tyler “Turbo” Turner led 24-7 Leonard with 21 points, while Storm Taylor added 14 and Blake Hicks tossed in 10.
Boles, a 64-53 bi-district winner over North Hopkins, will continue in the Class A Division I playoffs at 6 p.m. tonight at Bells against Lindsay. Lindsay earned a bye with its 13-2A title. The winner of this game faces either Trenton or Collinsville in the regional quarterfinals.
Hunter Jordan pumped in 36 points to lead Boles to its win over North Hopkins. Cameron Walker was next for the 21-7 Hornets with eight points and Hunter Bostick added seven.
Class 2A area boys playoff — Farmersville vs. Brock, 7:30 p.m., Northwest High School, Justin.
Class A Division I area boys playoff — Boles vs. Lindsay, 6 p.m., Bells High School.
Class 2A area boys playoff — Leonard vs. Whitney, 7 p.m., Dallas Skyline.
