GREENVILLE —   After beating No. 3 state-ranked Dodd City in the area round of the basketball playoffs, the Campbell Lady Indians will step up even higher as they take on No. 1 Saltillo at 6 tonight.

Their Class A Division II regional quarterfinal is set for Sulphur Springs High School. The winner advances to the Region III tournament on Friday at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium.

Three local boys teams are also in action with bi-district playoff games tonight.

Leonard takes on Pottsboro in a 2A bi-district playoff game at 6 p.m. in Anna.

Boles goes against North Hopkins in a Class A bi-district game at 7 p.m. at Commerce High School.

Bland tips off at about 7:30 p.m. in a bi-district playoff in Bells against Avery.

Campbell will bring a 22-9 mark into its contest against a 28-5 Saltillo team that wound up No. 1 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Division II ratings. Saltillo won its area game 56-23 over Prairie Valley. Victoria Stretcher pumped in 20 points to lead the Lady Lions, who also picked up seven points from Chelsea Moore and six each from Kendall Bain, Andrea Tippit and Karli Brewer.

Campbell wasn’t fazed by Dodd City’s lofty ranking, beating the Lady Hornets 52-45 on Friday night in Merit. Haley Davidson fired in 18 points to lead Campbell, which also picked up 16 from Sarah Taylor and 10 from Breanna Ashmore.

Campbell coach Steve Guffey said he was proud of the Lady Indians for stepping up in the first quarter after Davidson drew her second foul.

Leonard, third in the District 12-2A boys race, faces 11-2A runner-up Pottsboro. Leonard prepared for its playoff game by whipping Fruitvale 64-44 in a warmup game on Friday. Tyler “Turbo” Turner topped the Tigers with 11 points, while Matthew Wilson and Max Scoggins both added eight points.

Boles, third in District 15-A, takes on 16-A runner-up North Hopkins. Boles senior Hunter Jordan leads the Hornets. The 6-0 senior has scored more than 1,900 points for his career, averaging about 18 points per game this season.

Bland, second in District 15-A, faces the 16-A third-place finisher Avery. The winner of that game advances to the area round to face 13-A champion Lindsay.
