Royse City girls, Greenville boys win 13-4A games

GREENVILLE —   An early starting time didn’t slow down the Royse City Lady Bulldogs as they claimed a 51-39 District 13-4A basketball victory over the Greenville Lady Lions on Tuesday in the Lions Den.

The game was moved up from 6:30 to 5 p.m. because of snowy road conditions in and around Greenville and Royse City.

Royse City jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first minute and except for about 30 seconds led for the rest of the game as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 18-9 for the season and 4-4 in district play.

Krystal Pickron, the Metroplex’s top 4A scorer at 25.0 points per game, topped her average with 28 points to lead Royse City. Pickron scored inside and out with five 2-pointers, two threes and was 12-of-16 from the line.

Syndie Erbe was next for Royse City with nine points.

“I thought we played all right,” said Royse City coach Dallas Bookout. “We struggled with a few things. We’ve had some injuries but we’re doing a good job of holding it together.”

Maddy Crabtree led the Lady Lions, now 12-10 and 2-6, with 12 points to go with three assists and three steals.

Mackenzie Cooper finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Lions, who collected seven rebounds from Arian Alford and five from Savannah Himes.

“We lost an important game tonight,” said Lady Lions coach Lesa Darst. “I felt like we never got in our rhythm. We had chances to pull it out. We just didn’t. Bottom line is every night you have to come in playing our game.”
