McKinney North player helps North all-stars to 90-86 win

Chicken Express all-star girls classic

GREENVILLE —   Alexis Mason fired in 29 points to earn most valuable player honors and lead the North to a 90-86 victory over the South in the first annual Chicken Express All-Star girls basketball game at the Lions Den Saturday night.

  Mason, a 5-9 senior from McKinney North, also pulled down seven rebounds and handed out seven assists to claim MVP honors for the North team.

  Royse City senior Krystal Pickron managed 20 points, 14 rebounds and two assists to claim MVP honors for the South team.

  Michaela Burge of Wolfe City hit two big free throws to seal the win for the North.

  The North squad started fast, racing out to leads of 12-5 and 14-7 on baskets by Mason, Greenville’s Elizabeth Rutherford and Victoria Stretcher of Saltillo.

  The South got to within 14-10 with 15:58 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Jordan Mitchell of Rockwall-Heath and did not take the lead until about a minute left in the first half on a basket by Pickron. The South held a 44-43 lead at the half.

  The South’s biggest lead was with 11 minutes left in the game when Pickron hit a free throw to give them a 69-64 advantage.

  Haley Trentham of Celeste scored straight five points for the North to tie the game at 69 apiece. From then on it was a real dog fight back and forth until Chaney Speight of Cooper hit a jumper and Burge sank her two free throws.

  Kelsey Mouer of Commerce finished with six points, five assists and three steals for the North.

  Greenville’s Mackenzie Cooper and Rutherford both scored nine points for the North. Rutherford added six rebounds and three assists and Cooper finished with 10 rebounds and four assists.

Saltillo all-stater Victoria Stretcher, a 6-1 post player, produced 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks for the North.

  Jonae Isaac from Princeton added 20 points for the South, which also picked up 13 points from Jordan Mitchell of Rockwall-Heath and 10 from Hannah Pinnell of Winnsboro.
