Caddo Mills wins baseball, softball tourneys

GREENVILLE — Caddo Mills 7,

Prairiland 4

  TRENTON — Cody Nitson struck out six and drove in two runs to help the Caddo Mills Foxes claim the Trenton baseball tournament with a 7-4 victory over Prairiland in the championship game on Saturday.

  Nitson fired a three-hitter and went 2-for-3 at the plate to earn most valuable player honors for the tournament.

  Jonathon Gillispie was also 2-for-4 for the Foxes, who improved to 8-1 for the season.

Caddo Mills also downed Trenton 10-5, Ector 13-1 and S&S Consolidated 6-1 in tournament play.

  Nitson was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple against S&S.

  Hayden Greene and James Kielty both had two hits for Caddo Mills against Ector.

  TYLER — The Caddo Mills Lady Foxes went 5-0 this weekend in the Tyler TASO softball tournament.

The Lady Foxes whipped Jacksonville 14-4, Chapel Hill 17-2, Slocum 5-2, Brownsboro 9-2 and Fruitvale 16-1.

  Mary Moran led the Foxes at the plate against Jacksonville with a grand slam homer.

Kristen Maxwell homered against Chapel Hill and Makenna Tallant pounded two doubles.

  Jacie Thomason doubled against Slocum as Moran fired a two-hitter.

  Thomason slugged a grand slam and drove in five runs against Brownsboro and Moran also homered.

  Kristen Maxwell tripled and homered against Fruitvale and Thomason doubled.

      His nickname in Greenville is “Pee Wee,” but Oliver Hale is a big man on the tennis court and in the kitchen.
      Hale, who is a 1971 graduate of Greenville High School, won three medals at the 2014 Transplant Games of America recently in Houston while competing in the 60-and-over age category. He won a gold medal in men’s doubles, a silver in men’s singles and a bronze in mixed doubles along with playing partner Irena Bucci.
