PARIS, Texas —
New Boston ended Lone Oak’s run in the Class 2A basketball playoffs, handing the Buffaloes a 48-38 loss in the regional quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
“Early we had too many turnovers,” said Lone Oak coach Matt McLaughlin.
McLaughlin said the Buffaloes were also hurt by the loss of their leading scorer for the season, Clint Mahand, who missed most of the game with an illness.
New Boston spread the scoring around among Taquain Dudmon (12 points), Jeff Gladney (11) and Aaron Conkleton (11).
Ethan Fite led Lone Oak with 19 points. Coleton Lasseter was next with six.
New Boston advances to the regional semifinals at Tarleton State in Stephenville to play Ponder at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Lone Oak finishes with 25-4 record after winning district, bi-district and area titles.
“This was a really special season,” said McLaughlin. “Real special bunch of guys.”
Lone Oak will lose three seniors off this team to graduation: Clint Mahand, Ethan Fite and Sawyer Zachary.
“Three really good ones,” said McLaughlin.
