ROYSE CITY — The Royse City Bulldogs took a step back on any chances at a playoff spot by losing to the Sherman Bearcats 41-17 at Royse City ISD Stadium on Friday night.
Sherman’s Tre Mask was the driving force behind the Bearcat offense as he began the night with a 23-yard touchdown run followed by the extra point by Austin Roan.
Roan then booted a 49-yard field goal, giving Sherman a 10-0 lead.
Royse City answered with a 31-yard field goal by Blain Hickman and the first quarter ended with Sherman leading 10-3.
Royse City again responded on a fake punt on fourth and one at the Sherman 48-yard line. Senior Alex Ramsey took the ball and raced 48 yards for a touchdown. Hickman’s point after even the score at 10 each.
Sherman marched the field and Mask scored again on a 9-yard run. A Bulldog fumble resulted in a 9-yard touchdown run by Jason Chavez and the Bearcats took a 24-10 halftime lead.
Sherman added a 22-yard field goal by Roan in the third quarter and the Bearcat offense drove the field again behind the running of Mask and Mask scored his third touchdown run on a 6-yard scamper. The kick afterward by Roan gave Sherman a commanding 34-10 lead on the final play of the third quarter.
Royse City tried getting back in the game with a 71-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Ramsey took the ball the final yard on a plunge to cut the lead in half with Sherman leading 34-17 at the 4:42 mark of the final stanza.
