Greenville Lions drop season opener

GREENVILLE —   Prosper spoiled the Greenville Lions’ season debut in basketball on Wednesday night, handing them a 56-41 loss.

“We had a very slow start,” said Lions coach Marcus Smith. “It was 16-0 before we scored. Then we outscored them after that.”

Greenville rallied to within two points in the third quarter but suffered another offensive lapse that enabled Prosper to pull away.

Collen Wilburn led the Lions with 12 points, while Jerry Dickeson and Marlon Mack both added nine points.

“Our effort was there on the offensive end,” said Smith. “Just couldn’t hit our shots tonight.”

Cameron Martin led the victors with 15 points and Robert Mott added 12.

The Lions recently added more players following the end of the football season on Friday night.

“This was a game with just three practices for the whole team,” said Smith.

The Lions will make their home debut tonight against West Mesquite.
