Denton Ryan cruises past Greenville Lions

GREENVILLE —   The Denton Ryan Raiders handed the Greenville Lions a 16-3 loss at John Mason Field Monday in non-district baseball action.

  Greenville jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as Hayden Stuart, Travis Koger and Jeff Prigmore all singled. Stuart scored on Justin Koger’s ground-out. Then Travis Koger scored on Luke Dyer’s ground-out. However, Prigmore was stranded at third base on a strikeout.

  The visiting Raiders answered with a run in the second as Nic Borth was hit by the pitch, stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch.

  Ryan grabbed the lead for good with five runs in the third on five hits and one Greenville error. Trevor Whitlock and Borth produced big hits in the inning.

  Denton Ryan scored five runs in the sixth inning off Luke Dyer, Greenville’s third pitcher of the game.

  Greenville’s Justin Koger led off the sixth inning with a single, went to second as Luke Dyer was hit by pitch. Koger stole third before crossing home on a wild pitch.

  The Raiders tallied five more in the seventh as Denton Ryan improved to 8-4 for the season.

Greenville falls to 4-7 and is next schedule to play at Mount Pleasant at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

  The Lions’ next home game is March 20 against Sulphur Springs.
