Wilson, Taylor selected to all-star game

GREENVILLE —   Dartannon Wilson and Marquis Taylor of Greenville have been selected to play in the First Annual Chicken Express All-Star Classic on April 20 at Greenville High School.

  Players from 35-40 towns in Northeast Texas will be on hand for the game. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game at 8.

  Wilson, a 6-3 guard, led the Lions this past season in scoring and rebounding. He averaged 17.0 points per game while pulling down 6.3 rebounds. In district play this season, Wilson scored 28 points against Wylie East and 28 points against Forney. He had other outstanding games in district with 21 points against Sherman, 23 versus Denison and 21 against Sherman. His best career game was 31 points against Sherman as a junior.

  The all-around star led the Lions to a first-place finish this season in the Paris tournament. Wilson was named all-tournament at Paris and in the Royse City tournament.

  Wilson has made the all-district team for three straight years. Wilson plans on attending college and majoring in electrical engineering. He has had some interest in playing basketball at Alcorn State. He is the son of Sundra Wilson.

  Taylor was not only smart on the basketball court, he graduated after basketball season at Greenville High School. The 6-4 senior forward turned in some stellar performances during his career. He had 27 points against Terrell, 24 against Sherman and 18 points against Royse City and Lucas Lovejoy.

  Taylor was all-district and lettered three years on the varsity basketball team and help lead the Lions to two playoff berths. He also played football and ran track during his high school career. He was one of the stars on his AAU basketball team that finished third in its pool at Las Vegas. Taylor plans to attend college but has not selected a school at this time. He is the son of Tonya Taylor.
