GREENVILLE —

The Royse City Bulldogs scored two runs on four hits in the eighth inning to escape John Mason Field with a 3-1 victory over the Greenville Lions Friday in District 13-4A baseball.

Luke Dyer of Greenville and Dalton Warner from Royse City hooked up in a pitcher’s duel, both allowing only one run through seven innings. Dyer stuck out five and Warner fanned 15.

“Greenville is a very scrappy team,” said Royse City coach Clay Wolfe. “Luke Dyer threw a great game and gave us trouble. Dalton Warner threw a spectacular game...Mason Spracklen got a big RBI   for us when we needed it.”

“We’re a good ball club,” said Greenville coach Cody Salyers. “We don’t handle pressure well. We’re one play away from winning this game. We got to make that one play sometime.”

Royse City raises its overall record to 15-7 and 5-3 in district, while Greenville falls to 2-6 in district.

The Bulldogs host McKinney North at 2:30 p.m. today, while Greenville travels to Lucas Lovejoy to take on the Leopards at 7:30 p.m. today.

Royse City struck first in the fifth as Skylar Ward walked and scored when Jaylen Milton reached base with the help of a couple Greenville errors.

Greenville would tie things up in the sixth when Jacob Jarvis reached on a bunt single and Justin Koger doubled to score Jarvis.

The game stayed tied until the eighth when the visitors got a walk from Ward, then three straight hits from Milton, Dylan Youngblood, and Jon Ochoa. Ochoa’s hit scored Ward. Then Spracklen’s hit scored Youngblood.

Koger was hit by a pitch and Luke Dyer singled in the Greenville eighth, but both runners were left stranded on base.
