John Mark Dempsey is looking for some help as he compiles information for a book about minor league baseball in Texas after World War II.
“One story, in particular, that I’m interested in is the 1946 East Texas League playoff series between Greenville and Henderson, in which the passions ran so high that game seven had to be moved to a neutral site, Texarkana,” wrote Dempsey. “Fist fights, threats to visiting players, etc. Trains were chartered to carry fans to and from the games.”
Dempsey, who grew up in Greenville, is asking people who might remember this, or other stories about the Greenville Majors and minor-league ball in the late 1940s and early 50s, to contact him.
“I’d also like to receive photos, which I promise to take very good care of and return,” he said.
Dempsey, who is a professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce, can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or at Texas A&M-Commerce, P.O. Box 3011, Commerce, Texas, 75428.
