GREENVILLE —   Kyla Simmons slugged a two-run home run in the seventh to give Royse City an 8-6 win over the Greenville on Thursday at Monty Stratton Field in District 13-4A softball.

“Every game moving forward is a big one,” said Royse City coach Michelle Booker. “We’ve got to be error free. Got to play with urgency.”

“We competed really well today,” said Greenville head coach Randy Pierce. “I was really proud of the way the girls showed up today. We’ve been missing that intensity. Today we showed up and they did everything we should have to win this game. We just fell a little short.”

Royse City got things going in the first inning as Maddie Sisk walked stole second and scored on a Lexi Ruff single.

Royse City would extend its advantage in the fourth as Kaylie Torres, Samantha Edgar, Tori Green, Noea Pizana, Sisk and Kaitlyn Johnson all had singles. Green, Pizana, Sisk, and Johnson drove in runs as the Lady Bulldogs grabbed a 6-0 advantage,

Greenville would make things interesting as the Lady Lions scored four runs on five basehits from Sidney Tippit, Ali Threndyle, Arian Alford, Megan Shaw and Elizabeth Rutherford.

Greenville wasn’t done as the Lady Lions scored two runs in the fifth to tie the game. Tippit’s triple to go with hits by Threndyle, Alford and Shaw got it to 6-6.

In the seventh Kaitlyn Johnson of Royse City walked before Simmons blasted a home run over the right center field fence.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-3 in District 13-4A while the Lady Lions fell to 1-7.

Royse City won the junior varsity game 15-4.
