The Wylie Pirates exploded for six runs in the first inning en route to a 10-5 District 13-4A baseball victory over the Greenville Lions at John Mason Field on Friday.
Mason Burk and Luke Dyer led Greenville at the plate with three hits and two runs batted in.
Kolby Hass and Chad Boehm both had two hits to lead Wylie.
Travis Koger walked four and struck out three, while Chris Hazlett struck out four and walked three on the mound for Greenville.
Greenville answered a 6-0 deficit with two runs in the second inning off singles by Dylan Coleman and Jacob Jarvis and a two-run double from Burk.
Dylan Echols and Boehm singled to start off the third for the Pirates and scored on a Hass single.
Austin Craig walked and Burk singled in the Greenville fourth and both scored on Luke Dye’s single.
Dyer walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch in the sixth.
Brice Wood’s three-run triple helped Wylie jump out to the big lead in the first.
“Give Wylie credit,” said Greenville coach Cody Salyers. “They came out banging the ball around the field, which gave them an early lead. We had our chances all night. We just couldn’t capitalize.”
Greenville dropped to 6-10-1 overall and 1-2 in district play, the same district record for Wylie.
Greenville will host Wylie East on Tuesday.
Wylie won the junior varsity game, 18-3.
