The Boles Hornets and Caddo Mills Lady Foxes will return to defend their titles at the Celeste Invitational basketball tournament that starts today in the Blue Devils’ gymnasium.
Boles, which downed Lone Oak 51-43 in last year’s boys finals, opens the tournament at 4:30 p.m. today in a rematch against Lone Oak. Hunter Jordan, who returns for the Hornets, led Boles to victory last year with 21 points.
No. 25 state-ranked Honey Grove opens the tournament at 10:30 a.m. against Savoy. Honey Grove lost 78-73 in double overtime last season to Boles at the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Other boys first-round games feature Caddo Mills against Wolfe City at 1:30 p.m. and host Celeste against Fannindel at 7:30.
Caddo Mills will begin defense of its girls title at 2 p.m. against Honey Grove. Caddo Mills nipped Lone Oak 56-54 in last year’s finals.
Celeste’s 12-1 Lady Devils, who’ve won the Miller Grove and Savoy tournaments, will be gunning for their third straight title. The Lady Devils open at 6 p.m. against Fannindel.
Other first-round games will pit Bells versus Savoy at 9 a.m. and Lone Oak against Boles at 3 p.m.
The tournament continues through Saturday with the girls championship game set for 6 p.m. Saturday and the boys finals to follow at about 7:30.
