Wylie East blanks Greenville Lions

GREENVILLE —   The Wylie East Raiders improved to 10-1 in District 13-4A baseball with a 7-0 shutout of the Greenville Lions at John Mason Field Friday.

  Bryar Barnes took the mound victory, striking out 11 and giving up only two hits to Justin Koger and Tanner Knudson.

  Wylie East scored three runs in the first inning on three hits and a Greenville error. Barnes, Garrett McCain and Jesse Brubaker got the hits. Todd Richards, Barnes and McCain scored the runs.

  The Raiders added a run with two outs in the fifth on consecutive singles by McCain, Brubaker and Mason Knapp.

  Wylie East added three more on two hits and a couple of Greenville errors. Jacob Padilla, Taylor Ellis and Barnes all scored for the Raiders.

  Greenville, which committed only one error in Thursday’s 3-2 win over Wylie, made four errors against Wylie East.

  The Lions, now 3-7 in district play, will travel to McKinney on Tuesday to take on the North Bulldogs.

Celeste 6

  CELESTE — Bland’s Lady Tigers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to claim an 8-6 District 15-A softball victory over Celeste on Friday.

  Morgen Gann led the victors with four hits and Kellie Pate, also the winning pitcher, managed three hits.

  Rachel Myers went 2-for-3 to lead Celeste at the plate.

  CADDO MILLS — The Caddo Mills Lady Foxes avenged an earlier loss with an 8-5 District 12-2A softball win over Gunter on Friday.

  Mary Moran, who picked up the mound win, struck out a district-high 12 batters while allowing seven hits and four walks.

  Natalee Wright paced Caddo Mills at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double as the Lady Foxes squared their district record at 5-5.

  CAMPBELL — Bland took advantage of 15 hits, two walks and five errors to down Campbell 16-2 in District 16-A baseball on Friday.

  Keith Pendergrass went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs batted in to top Bland. Mason Bergman and Cameron Turner both pounded two hits for Bland.

  Kolton Warren, who took the win, struck out 11.

  Dallas Degarso, Jacob Camp, Colby Gore, Jose Romero and Brian Curiel had hits for Campbell.

  SUNNYVALE — Sunnyvale shut out Quinlan Ford on just two hits in a 10-0 District 14-3A baseball victory on Friday.

  Nathan Hawkins picked up the mound win.

  Logan Lane took the mound loss.

Van Alstyne 3

  VAN ALSTYNE — The Leonard Tigers won 7-3 over the Van Alstyne Panthers Friday in District 12-2A baseball.

  Ty McKinney took the victory on the mound, striking out six and walking only one.

McKinney was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in while Bradley Dills was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Tigers, who are now 6-4 in District. Blake Cummings, Blake Hicks and Ryan Nixon also had hits for Leonard, which will host Community at 11 a.m. today in non-district play. — Reported by Johnny McKinney.
