McKinney North cruises past Greenville Lady Lions

GREENVILLE —   McKinney North’s Lady Bulldogs won 25-15, 25-22, 25-9 over the Greenville Lady Lions Tuesday at the Lions Den.

  The District 13-4A volleyball match started out well for Greenville as Kalli Moyer, Britney Smith and Savannah Himes helped the Lady Lions jump out to a 9-4 lead. However, the visitors from McKinney behind Darby Maciea, Ali Michalak and Mary Valdez would come back strong as Michalak served for 11 straight points. McKinney North led 20-11 and closed out the first set of the match.

  The second set was tight all the way with North behind six straight serves from Kristi Carter and Maciea squeaking out a 25-22 win.

  The third set was all McKinney North as Mary Valdez, Lindsey Denne and Melissa Nichols helped the Lady Bulldogs romp, 25-9.

  McKinney North raised its record to 4-2 in district, while Greenville falls to 7-14 and 2-6 in district.

“We fought hard for the first two sets,” said Greenville head coach Amanda Marek. “We just have got to find a way to keep going through the whole match.”

  Britney Smith led Greenville in kills with four, while Melanie Collazos, Kassidy Watson and Savannah Himes each had three.

  Himes topped the team in blocks with three and Smith had two. Jamison Forst and Himes both served for two aces.

  Tayler Cordova recorded a team-high 10 digs, while Collazos tallied five.

  McKinney North won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-14. Harlie Mudie had three aces for Greenville.

  McKinney North took the freshman match, 25-9, 25-19.

  Greenville travels to Lucas Lovejoy Friday with the varsity match at 5:30 p.m.; freshman and junior varsity matches to follow.

Caddo Mills

  FARMERSVILLE — The No. 5 state-ranked Caddo Mills Lady Foxes stayed undefeated in District 12-2A volleyball with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 win on Tuesday over Farmersville.

  Caddo Mills is now 26-4 for the season and 5-0 in district play.

Kathleen Steinhoff led the Lady Foxes with nine kills, while Kristin Newell put away eight kills.

Makenna Tallant and Natalee Wright both served for two aces and Wright set for a team-high 25 assists.

  Bailey Miley led the Foxes’ defense with 16 digs.

  The Lady Foxes will play again at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Sunnyvale.

  Caddo Mills took the junior varsity match, 16-25, 26-24, 25-18.

  Farmersville claimed the freshman contest, 25-22, 25-16.

Wylie East beats

Royse City

  ROYSE CITY — Wylie East handed the Royse City Lady Bulldogs a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 District 13-4A volleyball loss on Tuesday.

  Royse City will return to action at home on Friday against McKinney North with the varsity match starting at 5:30 p.m.
