Breanne Smallwood struck out 12 while pitching Mount Pleasant to a 3-1 non-district softball win over Greenville on Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field.
Smallwood allowed only three hits and three walks.
Courtney Johnson scored Greenville’s only run in the sixth after reaching on a triple. Ali Threndyle singled to drive in Johnson, who led the Lady Lions with two hits.
Johnson took the mound loss, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out four.
Tyshane Huey drove in two runs to lead the Lady Tigers at the plate and Brisha Hargroves drove in the other run.
Greenville is now 0-6-1 on the young season, while Mount Pleasant is now 5-4.
“We had a good defensive game,” said Greenville coach Blanca Saavedra, whose Lady Lions did not make an error. “We backed up our pitcher. We’re getting ready for the tournament this weekend.”
The Lady Lions will play in the Prosper tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Thursday against Mount Vernon. Then Greenville will play Paris Chisum at 6 p.m. Thursday.
