Celeste, Campbell girls win playoff games

GREENVILLE — Celeste (girls) 45,

James Bowie 38

  PATTONVILLE, Texas — Celeste’s Lady Devils jumped out to a 18-2 lead and then hung on for a 45-38 Class A bi-district win over James Bowie on Wednesday.

Jalisa Phillips fired in 20 points to spark the Lady Devils, who improved to 17-10 for the season.

  “We played really well,” said Celeste coach Amy Herron. “We come out strong. I don’t know if James Bowie was nervous or not but they kind of picked up the intensity. We held on because they made a run at us.”

  Celeste will advance to the area round to face No. 5 state-ranked Triple A Academy of Dallas.

Bland 60,

Boles 53

  MERIT — Bland reached the 20-win mark for the season with a 60-53 victory over Boles in a District 15-A finale on Wednesday.

  The 20-4 Tigers are advancing to the playoffs but first will play Blue Ridge for seeding purposes. The date and site of that game have yet to be determined.

  Cameron Turner led the victors with 21 points and Chris Brown tossed in 15.

  Austin Morgan paced Boles with 17 points.

  MOUNT PLEASANT — A 14-0 lead helped the No. 23 state-ranked Campbell Lady Indians pull away from Bloomburg 40-13 in a Class A Division II bi-district playoff.

  Caitlyn Branton led Campbell with 12 points and Haley Davidson fired in 10.

  Campbell will face Dodd City in the area round.

Rains 35

  ANNA — Paris knocked Rains out of the Class 3A playoffs, handing the Lady Cats a 46-35 bi-district loss on Wednesday.

  Nish Robins tossed in 13 points and Jazlyn Pipkins added 11 for the victors, who are now 20-9 for the season.

  Shye Meador-McCray tossed in 12 points for Rains, which finishes at 13-14.
