Lone Oak’s Lady Buffs softball team has advanced to the Class 2A regional finals after defeating Whitesboro 9-5 Friday night in spectacular fashion.
The Isenburg name will be imprinted in Whitesboro fans’ minds for many years to come. Junior Kaylee Isenburg hit a home run in game one of the series for the game’s only score.
Game two was highlighted by sister freshman Ashlee Isenburg’s grand slam with the score tied 5-5 in extra innings.
Lone Oak was behind 3-1 in the seventh inning before McKayla Dickey walked and Kaylee Isenburg was hit by a pitch after having a ball thrown behind her. Freshman pitcher Mariah Nichols came to the plate and hit a three-run home run to put Lone Oak ahead.
Ashlee Isenburg’s double put her in position to score as Tristan Beck then drove her in with a single.
Lone Oak was not able to hold the 5-3 lead as Whitesboro scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
The score remained tied 5-5 until the top of the ninth when Kaylee Isenburg, Chelsea Rigsby and Mariah Nichols each got on to load the bases.Ashlee Isenburg had two strikes on her when she launched a monster grand slam putting the Lady Buffs up by the final score.
This was the young Isenberg’s first homer at any level.
Lone Oak shut out the Lady Cats in the bottom of the inning to secure the win and a memorable semfinal series
Nichols got the win with 17 strike outs and only four walks.
Lone Oak will face the winner of the Brock-Mount Vernon series next week to see who advances to state.
