Nearly 40 youngsters ages 12 and under played some golf in pleasant weather conditions on Thursday at Wright Park Municipal in Greenville.
The event was the Little Monster Ball tournament in conjunction with the Craig Bowers Memorial Monster Ball golf tournament set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Greenville. The big highlight is the 36-hole Monster Ball tournament that features a record field of 104 teams this year.
Boys and girls in the Little Monster tournament filled up four-player teams in a scramble format similar to the Monster Ball tournament though that event will consist of two-player teams.
All players that finished the nine-hole event were awarded medals and the encouragement to continue playing the game of golf, one of the favorite pastimes of Craig Bowers, a former Greenville Lion athlete and coach and assistant principal at Royse City High School. Bowers died in a skiing accident in Colorado on March 14, 2012.
