Greenville Lions beat Wylie East, Lady Lions fall



GREENVILLE — Rockwall Heritage 57,

GCS 34

  ROCKWALL — Greenville Christian School dropped a 57-34 TAPPS District 3-2A contest to Rockwall Heritage on Friday.

  Andy Henderson and Will Martens both finished with nine points for GCS and Morgan Henry added eight.

Rockwall Heritage 55,

GCS (girls) 18

  ROCKWALL — Rockwall Heritage pulled past Greenville Christian School for a 55-18 TAPPS District 3-2A win over the Lady Eagles on Friday.

  Meaghan Brown led GCS with six points, Sophie Wimberley added five and Lynsie Brown added four.

GCS, now 0-3 in district play, entertains Rockwall Christian on Tuesday night.

Quinlan Ford (girls) 48,

Kaufman 44

  KAUFMAN — Quinlan Ford’s Lady Panthers escaped with a 48-44 District 14-3A win over Kaufman on Friday.

  Jessika Keeton led Ford with 17 points and Taylor Elrod added 12.

  PILOT POINT — The Caddo Mills Foxes dropped a tough one Friday to Pilot Point 56-51 in District 12-2A basketball action.

  Jordan Dixon fired in 13 to lead Caddo Mills, while Daxx Hill added eight.

  WOLFE CITY — The Bland Tigers won 44-34 over the Wolfe City Wolves in District 15-A basketball action Friday.

  Adam Shinn fired in 20 points for the Tigers, while Joseph Sourber poured in nine.

  Malik Gaffney fired in 11 for Wolfe City, while Colton Quirl tallied nine.

  • Greenville Lions' coaching staff lineup changes

      Each summer the Greenville Lions’ coaching staff goes through a transition phase as some coaches move on to other schools and new coaches are hired to take their place.
      This summer is no exception. There’s changes in the coaching staffs for the boys and girls programs that’ll involve the football, volleyball, boys soccer, powerlifting and softball teams.

      His nickname in Greenville is “Pee Wee,” but Oliver Hale is a big man on the tennis court and in the kitchen.
      Hale, who is a 1971 graduate of Greenville High School, won three medals at the 2014 Transplant Games of America recently in Houston while competing in the 60-and-over age category. He won a gold medal in men’s doubles, a silver in men’s singles and a bronze in mixed doubles along with playing partner Irena Bucci.

      Steve Guffey was a true sportsman in every sense of the word.
      Guffey, who died on Saturday at the age of 50, was a standout athlete and coach, who was also an avid golfer, angler and hunter. He was an educator. teacher, mentor and a friend to many who’ve been paying their tributes online and at candlelight vigils on Sunday in Ladonia and on Monday in Campbell.  Guffey’s memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Campbell High School gymnasium, where he coached the Lady Indians’ basketball team the past 12 years.
