Denison spoils Lady Lions' home finale

GREENVILLE —   It was senior night at Monty Stratton Field Tuesday and the Greenville Lady Lions softball team honored Arian Alford, Sidney Tippit, Elizabeth Rutherford and Ashley Walden in pre-game ceremonies.

  Denison then spoiled the Lady Lions' home finale, handing them a 10-4 loss.

  Greenville led 2-0 after two innings. But the Lady Jackets scored eight runs on four hits and a couple of Greenville errors in the third inning to take control.

  “We had one bad inning,” said Greenville head coach Randy Pierce. “We had mental mistakes. Outside of that we played our game. We competed but we let this one slip by. We want to congratulate our seniors for all their hard work.”

  Katie McMurray and Kaitlyne McNair both got two hits for Greenville. McMurray drove in two runs, while McNair drove in one run for Greenville.

  Taylor Cordova, Cortney Luna and Arian Alford all got base hits for Greenville.

  The Lady Lions fell to 1-13 in district, while Denison improved to 5-8.

  Greenville travels to Sherman Friday to take on the Lady Bearcats with the junior varsity game at 5:30 and the varsity game at 7 p.m.

  FARMERSVILLE — A five-run seventh inning helped the Caddo Mills Lady Foxes claim a 10-5 District 12-2A softball victory over Farmersville on Tuesday.

  Natalee Wright, Mary Moran and Jacie Thomason all had two hits for Caddo Mills.

  Hannah Neal led Farmersville with three hits.

  Mary Moran struck out 11 en route to the mound win.

  CELESTE — Bland held off Celeste for a 7-6 District 16-A baseball victory on Tuesday.

Keith Pendergrass struck out 10 for the mound win and had a triple. Brayton Godwin, Austin Grob, Cameron Turner and Tomas Larios also pounded two hits each for the victorious Tigers, who are now 9-2 in district play.

  Blake Garcia, Nathan Butcher and Jordan Wright all had two hits for Celeste.

  WOLFE CITY — The Wolfe City Wolves cruised to a 13-0 District 16-A baseball win over Campbell on Tuesday.

  Dallas Degarso and Mason Mothersell had hits for Campbell.

  Malik Gaffney went 2-for-3 for Wolfe City and Chris Adams homered.

  CADDO MILLS — The Caddo Mills Foxes pounded out 11 hits to win 11-1 over the Leonard Tigers Tuesday in District 12-2A baseball.

  Cody Nitson took the mound win, striking out 10, and was 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer and three runs batted in.

  Kyle Senter, Chase Cherry and Colton Black all had two hits for Caddo Mills.

Dylan Monck and Laine Albert got the only base hits for Leonard. — Reported by Johnny McKinney.

  CRANDALL — The Crandall Pirates won 10-5 over the Quinlan Ford Panthers Tuesday in District 14-3A baseball action.

  Colton Mosley, Logan Lane, Colton Kirk, Weston McCluskey, Bryce Evilsizer and Jon Humphries all had hits for the Panthers.

  The Panthers close out the season Friday against Wills Point at Quinlan.
