Track qualifiers competing at region

ROCKWALL — Rockwall will have nine track and field athletes and Heath two competing at the UIL Class 4A Region II Championships at UTA’s Maverick Stadium this weekend.

  RHHS will have defending state gold medalist Brianna Richardson in the girls Triple Jump today and in the Long Jump tomorrow. She is the defending state silver medalist in the Long Jump.

  The Lady Hawks will also have 2-time defending district 100 Hurdles champion Yorlynn Engmann competing in her specialty at 6:10 p.m. today in the prelims. Finalists will run on Saturday at 3:25 p.m.

  Others competing today are Rockwall’s 10-4A gold and silver medalists in the Pole Vault, Jonny Lee and Adam Zolman. Both will hit the pit at 2 p.m.

  Rockwall high jumper Kerry Anderson, the 10-4A silver medalist, will jump at 3 p.m. and RHS bronze medalist in the Discus, Sara Cuzick, will throw at 4 p.m.

  Jackets Gaines Kinsey and Thorne Pettigrew, 10-4A silver and bronze medalists in the 800, will hit the UTA track at 5:45 p.m. in the prelims, with the Top-8 finishers moving into the final on Saturday at 3:10 p.m.

  Lady Jacket Jorja West, the 10-4A bronze medal winner in the 300 Hurdles, competes today in the prelims, with qualifiers running in the final at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday.

  RHS’s Kaylee Hinton won’t compete in her two events until Saturday, with both scheduled at 9 a.m. She is the 10-4A gold medalist in the Pole Vault and silver medalist in the Long Jump.

  High Jump silver medalist Emily Bonny will jump in the girls competition at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

  • All-star basketball games set for Saturday night in Greenville

      Last year Greenville senior Dartannon Wilson took advantage of the home court with 34 points to lead all scorers at the first annual Chicken Express all-star basketball game.
      Wilson helped the North to a 114-85 victory over the South in a fast-paced boys game. Wilson, who was 15-of-20 from the field including a couple of dunks, also pulled down 12 rebounds and handed out four assists to secure most valuable player honors.

      The second annual event is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night at Greenville High School. The girls game tips off first, with the boys event to follow.

      The Greenville Lady Lions finished their District 13-4A softball season at home on Friday with a 9-2 loss to the Sherman Lady Bearcats.
      Greenville honored senior players Ali Threndyle, Megan Shaw, Tayler Cordova and Katie McMurray in pre-game ceremonies.

      The 19th state-ranked Lone Oak Lady Buffaloes added to their nine-game winning streak by shutting out Quitman 9-0 in District 14-2A softball on Tuesday.
      Freshman pitcher Mariah Nichols got the win, striking out 14 while only walking two in a two-hitter to wrap up the regular season.
