GREENVILLE —   The Greenville Lions pounded 12 hits in an 11-5 win over the Sherman Bearcats at John Mason Field Friday in District 13-4A baseball.

  Sherman fell to 1-6.

“We jumped on them early,” said Greenville head coach Cody Salyers. “We made the big defensive plays early in the game. We kind of eased up on them in the middle part of the game, but we finished.”

The Lions’ defense also stepped up, turning in two big double plays.

Travis Koger picked up the victory on the mound, walking four and striking out two.

Hazlett got the save for the Lions, who will host Royse City on Friday.

Greenville got things started in the first inning as Jarvis doubled. Justin Koger walked. Burk reached on a fielder’s choice and then Dyer, Hazlett and White all had singles as Greenville scored four runs.

Greenville extended its lead to 7-0 in the second with a single by Travis Koger, a hit batter, a Burk single, an error and Hazlett’s bases-loaded walk.

Sherman scored a run in the third on a Drew Rome triple and an error.

The Bearcats scored three runs in the fifth on hits from Zach Reeves, Davis Wieck and Case Rolen.

Greenville struck again in the bottom half of the inning with a walk to Travis Koger and then brother Justin’s two-run blast to left centerfield.
