Lions to honor nine seniors in season finale

GREENVILLE —   Greenville’s Lions will honor their nine seniors as they close out the 2012-13 basketball season at home tonight against Lucas Lovejoy.

The Lions will recognize the seniors and their parents in pre-game ceremonies. The seniors include Dartannon Wilson, Darion Neal, Kadeem Jimmerson, Marquis Taylor, Larenzo Smith, Chris Bazor, Taylor Kinney, Jason Thomas and Jamar Clark.

Scheduled game times are at 5 for the freshmen, 6:15 for the junior varsity and 7:30 for the varsity contests in the Lions Den.

The Lions are 15-17 for the season and at 4-9 in District 13-4A are out of the playoff hunt following a 60-59 loss at Royse City on Friday night. A shot at the buzzer did not fall for the Lions, who stayed close to the Bulldogs the whole game.

Dartannon Wilson and Marquis Taylor both fired in 18 points to lead the Lions, while Collen Wilburn pitched in nine.

Lovejoy suffered its first district loss on Friday night to Wylie, falling 52-48 in overtime. Trevor Eckard led the Leopards with 15 points, while Jordan Reed shot in 12 and Jake Flaggert added 10. That loss dropped Lovejoy down to 12-1 in district play.

Lovejoy beat the Lions 65-54 in Lucas on Jan. 18, after collecting 22 points from Reed and 15 from Flaggert.

Wilson led the Lions in that game with 14 points and Neal added eight.

Most of the other boys teams around the local area will also be closing out their regular seasons tonight.

Among the games scheduled are Royse City at McKinney North, Community at Melissa, Kaufman at Quinlan Ford, Grand Saline at Commerce, Gunter at Farmersville, Van Alstyne at Caddo Mills, Edgewood at Lone Oak, Bland at Boles and Celeste at Wolfe City.
