The Greenville Lady Lions will honor their seniors while the Lions celebrate “Jam the Gym” night in District 13-4A basketball tonight against Denison.
Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m. The Lady Lions will tip off around 6:30 after recognizing the seniors and their parents in pre-game ceremonies. The boys varsity game follows at about 8.
The Lady Lions will bring a 12-13 season record and 2-10 district mark into their last home game. They’ll finish the season on Tuesday night at Sherman.
The Lady Lions dropped their last game 69-32 to No. 8 state-ranked McKinney North, which is leading the district.
Elizabeth Rutherford paced the Lady Lions with 10 points. Mackenzie Cooper finished with seven points and five assists and Savannah Himes pulled down seven rebounds.
Denison’s Lady Jackets dropped their last district game to Wylie, 69-37 on Tuesday night.
Denison won the first meeting between the two teams, 42-35 at Denison on Jan. 8. Rutherford led the Lady Lions in that game with 15 points. Jacoya Johnson topped Denison with 13 points and Jasmine Ballard added 11.
The Lions are hoping fans will “Jam the Gym” for their game against Denison. Greenville is 14-15 overall and 3-7 in district play after falling 83-60 at McKinney North on Tuesday. Dartannon Wilson led the Lions with 15 points, Darion Neal added 13 and Marquis Taylor pitched in 11.
Denison is 1-9 in district play following a 63-52 loss to Wylie. Daniel Batey led the Yellow Jackets with 23 points.
Denison’s only district win was 64-58 over the Lions on Jan. 8 in Denison. Batey led all scorers with 31 points in that game. Wilson led the Lions with 18 points and Collen Wilburn finished with 14.
