Volleyball playoff run ends for Cumby

GRAND SALINE — Cumby’s run in the volleyball playoffs ended on Tuesday night with a 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21 loss to Overton.

Overton will advance to the regional semifinals to face Iola at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Herrington Patriot Center at the University of Texas at Tyler. The other regional semifinal pits Detroit against Normangee at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Cumby finishes the season with a 29-6 record to go with District 18-A and area titles.

Laura Oviedo served for a team-high 10 points to lead Cumby and also had three kills and 10 digs.

Courtney Crumpton served for eight points and managed three digs.

Savanah Neal served for seven points and had had four kills, four assists and two digs.

Ashley Anderson added seven points and three digs.

Brittany Seely wound up with six points, five assists and 10 digs.

Kailee Sartin added three points and 12 digs.

Demi Newsom produced three digs and Valerie Partridge served for a point.
