Friday night football

Herald-Banner Staff

WINNSBORO — The Caddo Mills Foxes lost a hard-fought district showdown with the Winnsboro Red Raiders 35-20 on Friday night.

Nathan Jeffery added three more touchdowns to run his Class 2A career TD lead to 121 touchdowns. Jeffery finished the night with 212 yards on 25 carries.

Winnsboro had 27-yard return on the opening kick-off to get good field position at their own 44. Fullback Nick Parton gained nine yards up the middle on the Fox defense for the first carry of the night.

Boles 28, Cumby 14

CUMBY — The No. 2 Boles Hornets ran their record to 8-0,4-0 in district with a 28-14 victory over the stubborn Cumby Trojans at Frazier-Lawrence Field Friday night.

Cumby falls to 5-3, 3-1 in district with the loss.

The visiting Hornets started out strong; on their second possession of the game the Hornets behind the rushing of Lane Sutton, Austin Cantrell, Kailob Wallace, and Stephen Hatchel moved down the field in 8 plays.

Highland Park 51, Royse City 13

ROYSE CITY — There is a reason they are ranked No. 6 in the state.

Highland Park invaded Royse City ISD Stadium on Friday, with its first visit to Royse City after an 85-year hiatus. The two teams last met in Royse City in 1924. The visit may have come too soon as the Class 4A state-ranked Scots left their legendary legacy untarnished as they handed the Bulldogs a 51-13 defeat.

Lone Oak 47, Grand Saline 14

GRAND SALINE — The Lone Oak Buffaloes remained undedeated in District 13-2A with a 47-14 whipping of the Grand Saline Indians on Friday night. The Buffaloes are all alone atop the District 13-2A standings with Caddo Mills losing to Winnsboro.

Although the weather was a bit cool, the Buffalo defense came out hot, holding the Indians to negative yardage on their first drive. Cooper Jones blocked in Indian punt and Trey Malone recovered the ball on the 5.

Farmersville 35, Community 26

FARMERSVILLE — The Fightin’ Farmers had to really fight hard to beat the tough Community Braves, 35-26, in a matchup of unbeatens in District 13-3A.

Senior quarterback Austin Brooks shook off the dust in the third quarter to lead Farmersville 5-3, (3-0) back from a 12-8 halftime deficit.

Van Alstyne 48, Commerce 24

VAN ALSTYNE — Commerce fought hard but came out on the short end of a 48-24 District 10-3A battle with Van Alstyne Friday night at Panther Stadium.

The game remained close until Van Alystyne, which remains undefeated at 8-0 and 3-0 in district play, broke it open with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Leonard 56, Bells 22

BELLS — The Leonard Tigers upped their record to 6-2 and a third place in district with a win over now 3-4 Bells Panthers, at Bells Friday night.

When the game began, Reggie Robinson immediately put eight points on the board for the Tigers, by running 51 yards to the endzone, and then running in the two-point conversion.

Celeste 41, Fruitvale 8

CELESTE -— Celeste kept its playoff hopes alive with a 41-8 win over Fruitvale on Friday night.

Carden Russell opened the scoring for the Blue Devils on a 20-yard run. Jose Amaro kicked the PAT.

A 10-yard run by Joey Brock along with another Amaro extra point gave Celeste a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Quinlan Ford 37, Rains 14

QUINLAN — Quinlan Ford picked up a key district win topping Rains 37-14 Friday to move to 2-1 in district while the Wildcats dropped to 0-3.

Ford High School was celebrating homecoming and Patrick Lugo was crowned homecoming king while Megan Kleiber was named homecoming queen.

Both teams started slow on the muddy field and played a scoreless first quarter.
