A&M-Commerce runner earns all-LSC honors

A&M-Commerce Sports

CANYON Tyler Tyndell earned all-Lone Star Conference honors for the third straight year to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the 2009 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The senior from Paris ran the 8-kilometer course at the West Texas A&M University Horse Center in a time of 26:06 to finish seventh overall. Amos Sang of Abilene Christian outdistanced the field by nearly a minute over his closest competitor in a time of 24:44.

About a minute and 18 places separated the Lions’ next three runners as junior Brandon Womack was 20th in 27:05, freshman Nathan White was 32nd in 27:39 and senior Gerardo Delafuente was 38th in 28:04. Senior Logan Kelly was 55th in 29:41, freshman Laurencio Tamayo was 56th in 29:44 and freshman Ross Hicks was 58th in 30:30.

Abilene Christian won its 19th straight men’s team title with all five runners in the top 13 ahead of Tarleton State (75), Eastern New Mexico (109), Cameron (118), Angelo State (128) and West Texas A&M (144).

On the women’s side, freshman Maci Bradford paced the Lions with a 40th-place finish, just ahead of junior teammate Kate Donovan, who finished 41st. Bradford, a freshman from Greenville, ran her first collegiate 6-kilometer course in a time of 25:51.8, a little less than seven seconds ahead of Donovan, who finished 25:58.7.

Another Lions freshman Jennifer Speer crossed the line in 27:27.1 in her first collegiate 6K race for 59th-place honors. Gabrielle Greer was 66th in a time of 28:44.8 and Jamie Hays was 71st in a time of 32:10.4 to round out the A&M-Commerce lineup.

Midwestern State repeated as team champions and was led by the individual winner — Sydney Cole — who crossed the line 34 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

The Lions will next compete at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Meet on Nov. 7 at Abilene Christian.
