Lady Lions beat Newman Smith in volleyball

GREENVILLE Greenville’s Lady Lions celebrated their own homecoming with a 25-17, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22 volleyball victory over Newman Smith of Carrollton on Friday afternoon.

Morgan Bloyed, who was in the homecoming court later that night in football, led the Lady Lions with 24 assists to go with 15 digs and four service aces.

Meghan Litchfield added 11 assists, plus seven kills, nine digs and four aces.

Emelie Kilgore topped the Lady Lions in kills with 11 and had four digs and two aces.

Hannah Johnson was next in kills with nine, plus had five digs.

Freshman Maygan Bloyed added five kills and two digs.

Freshman Maddy Crabtree led the defense with 19 digs.

Heather Johnson added seven digs.

Shanterria Riley and Erika Patterson both finished with three digs.

Ashley Abbott produced five kills.

Newman Smith won the junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-12.

Greenville’s freshman A team prevailed, 25-15, 25-14.

The Lady Lions’ freshman B team won, 16-25, 25-15, 25-13.

Greenville’s teams will be back in action at home on Tuesday against Rockwall-Heath, starting at 5:30 p.m.
