Jeffery breaks Class 2A record as Foxes win

Senior tailback Nathan Jeffery scored five touchdowns to break the Class 2A career record and also help the Caddo Mills Foxes to a 48-6 homecoming victory over the Como-Pickton Eagles on Friday night.
Jeffery passed Rodney Thomas of Groveton on the all-time career touchdown list with 118 touchdowns as the Foxes improved to 6-1 for the season and 4-0 in District 12-3A.
Como-Pickton dropped to 1-6 and 0-4.
In pre-game ceremonies, the Caddo Mills Mighty Fox Band performed its superior rated marching performance from last Saturday's marching contest in Mesquite. Head cheerleader, Callie Hayden, was selected homecoming queen for 2009.
Caddo Mills took the opening kickoff and set the tone early with six straight carries by Jeffery. From the Eagles 16-yard line, quarterback Tre Couvillion sweep around the right side for 11 yards and a first and goal at the five. Jeffery added two more carries and punched the ball into the end zone from the one with 7:16 left in the first quarter. Keegan Block added the PAT and the Foxes were up 7-0.
An 8-yard punt by Como-Pickton set the Foxes up at the Eagles' 38 yard line. It took four carries by Jeffery before he got his second touchdown of the night, a 6-yard burst over the left tackle. After Block's PAT, Caddo Mills was ahead 14-0 at the 4:55 mark of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Caddo Mills held the Eagles on downs at midfield and took over at midfield. Eight straight carries by Jeffery ended with another 1-yard touchdown for his third of the night and a 21-0 lead for Caddo Mills.
Como-Pickton then went on its own 68-yard, 11-play drive, mixing passing with the running of James Carter, who finished off the possession with a 1-yard touchdown. The PAT failed and the Eagles had closed the gap to 21-6 before the teams went to halftime.
Caddo bMills egan the second half by forcing the Eagles to punt. Couvillion found Jacob Page for a big 37-yard pass play. Jeffery added six yards and a 15-yard face mask penalty on the tackle moved the Foxes to Como-Pickon's 14 . Jeffery hit the right side of the defense before cutting back to his left and outracing the corner back to the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the night.
On their next possession, Couvillion had two big runs after faking to Jeffery, one for 25 yards and then 13 yards up the middle of the Eagle defense for the touchdown. Block's PAT put Caddo Mills up 35-6 with 2:02 to go in the third quarter.
Caddo Mills' defense forced another punt from Como-Pickton and Jeffrey went back to work. As the clock went to 0:00 in the third quarter, Jeffery took a direct snap around the right side for 15 yards and a touchdown pulling Caddo Mills up 42-6.
On a fourth down play, a host of Fox defenders sacked the Como-Pickton quarterback for an 8 yard loss giving the ball back to Caddo Mills at the Eagles 34.
Three runs by Jeffery produced another touchdown and a 48-6 final when the PAT failed.
Ryan Locke had another big night on the defensive side of the with four tackles, a recovered fumble and two big knockdowns of sure pass completions.
Hunter Greene, Jacob Page and Ryan Turney also had big hits for the defense which held Como-Pickton to only 144 total yards while the Fox offense accounted for 305 total yards.
Jeffery ended the night with 209 yards on 32 carries to go with his record-setting five touchdowns.
