Pottsboro runner claims cross country invitational

COMMERCE Pottsboro runner Nathan Collier, who finished 11th at the state cross country meet last year, ran away with the 5000-meter title on Saturday at the 10th Annual Margo Harbison Invitational hosted by Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Collier clocked a time of 17 minutes, 29 seconds on the course at the Eddie Moore Sports Complex to win by 34 seconds over Everett Wilder of Sulphur Bluff. Wilder finished 19th in the Class A division at the state meet last year and Collier was 11th in Class 2A.

Ross Hicks of Sulphur Springs was third at 18:23 to lead the Wildcats to the team title. Sulphur Springs outpointed Hopkins County rival North Hopkins (45-89) as Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill was third and Sulphur Bluff finished fourth.

Garland Naaman Forest put two runners in the top 10 to claim the girls team title with 38 points. Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill was second at 83 and Sulphur Springs finished third with 124.

A Naaman Forest runner won the 3200 with a 13:08 time as Becky Forbus of Farmersville was second with a 13:39 and Anne Waidelich of Bland was third with a 13:55.

The names of some runners who finished were not available from A&M-Commerce’s sports information office that supplied the results.
