Friday night football

Herald-Banner Staff

COMMERCE — The Commerce homecoming ceremony before the game, with April Neal being crowned queen and Austin Draughn King was one of the few highlights for the Tigers on Friday night.

Defending Class 2A Division II state champions Daingerfield spoiled Commerce’s homecoming, handing the Tigers a 41-0 loss.

Commerce had 11 different players handle the football. No one could get the ball into the end zone.

Chapel Hill 7, Quinlan Ford 0

QUINLAN — The Tyler Chapel Hill Bulldogs made a 19-yard touchdown run by Avery Henderson with 8:24 to go in the first quarter stand up for a 7-0 victory over Quinlan Ford on a soggy Lytal Field on Friday night.

The Panther defense seemed to hold its own against the Bulldog offense but the Panther offense could get very little going all night long.

Aubrey 43, Community 0

NEVADA — The Aubrey Chapparals kept their unbeaten and unscored on streak alive with a 43-0 win over the Community Braves on Friday night.

It did not take long for the Chapparals to get command of this game as Chase Mahurin returned the opening kick off 75 yards for a touchdown. Levi Birdson made the first of five PATs to put Aubrey up 7-0.

Mount Pleasant 36, Royse City 17

MOUNT PLEASANT — Landon Whitaker rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns on four carries to carry the Mount Pleasant Tigers to a 36-17 victory over Royse City on Friday night.

Mount Pleasant squared its season record at 2-2 while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3.

Royse City will open District 10-4A play at home on Friday, hosting Rockwall for homecoming.

Kemp 54, Rains 7

EMORY — Cris Murray and Wesley Kerr combined for three touchdown runs as the Kemp Yellowjackets cruised to a 54-7 victory over the Rains Wildcats on Friday night.

Murray’s runs covered 78, 38 and 5 yards. He scored the 78-yarder on Kemp’s first play from scrimmage.

Kerr’s runs covered 20, 8 and 16 yards.
