Lone Oak wins Cumby volleyball tournament

CUMBY —
Melanie Brand put away eight kills to earn the most valuable player award and also lead the Lone Oak Lady Buffs to the championship of the Cumby volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Lone Oak beat Cumby, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19.
Brand also served for 15 points and had five digs.
Lone Oak also picked up nine blocks and five digs from Chelsea Lyday, who served for seven points.
Rachel Hammons led Lone Oak in digs with eight.
Jessi Holt and Brooke Hinson both finished with seven digs for Lone Oak, Alyson Hicks had six digs and 10 points and Ashton Hale had three digs and 13 assists.
Lindsey Patton also managed four blocks for Lone Oak and Erica Caughlan had one dig.
Cumby’s Savanah Neal and Laura Oviedo were named to the all-tournament team.
Cumby beat Como-Pickton, 25-14, 25-11; and Blue Ridge, 25-12, 25-22, to reach the finals.
Brittany Seely finished Saturday’s play with 22 points, six aces, three kills, 21 assists and two digs for Cumby.
Oviedo managed 22 points, 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks.
Kailee Sartin added 15 points, three aces, two kills and seven digs.
Ashley Anderson finished with 15 points, three aces, three kills and five digs.
Neal added 17 kills, 21 assists and five blocks.
Valerie Partridge finished with six points and five digs for Cumby, which dropped to 14-5 for the season.
