Volleyball action: Wolfe City, Commerce, Cumby, Lone Oak

COMMERCE — The No. 7 state-ranked Commerce Lady Tigers are 8-1 on the volleyball season after topping a scrappy Lone Oak team, 27-25, 25-16, 25-18, Tuesday night.

"The girls passed really good during our rallies,” said Commerce coach Kelsey Hall. “Usually when we pass good, we hit good."

The Lady Tigers came out on fire and built a commanding lead behind the serving of Chaney Moreland who served up eight points.

Lone Oak rallied to take a 25-24 lead. After a sideout and two quick points Commerce took the win, 27-25.

Game two started out the same way as the first but the Lady Tigers kept up the pressure and held the lead to take a 25-16 win.

Game three had both team trade points until the Lady Buffalos took a 12-11 lead behind strong serving.

After a sideout and seven straight points by Caitlin Yoakum, the Lady Tigers held a 18-12 lead.

"We served good this game,” Hall said. “We had a couple of runs while we were serving and it really paid off in the end."

Lone Oak was able to bring the score back to 21-18 and make the game another close one, but a run of four nice hard serves by Chaney Moreland finished the game at 25-18.
