Local track club sending 19 to state meet

FRISCO — Nineteen members of the M&M Track Club earned berths in the TAAF Games of Texas with top-six finishes at the regional meet this past weekend.

Among the top finishers were Wolfe City hurdler Kealey Gaffney and Greenville jumper Jessica Franklin. Gaffney, who was seventh in the Class A 100-meter hurdles at the state meet in May, won the girls 16-and-under 100-meter hurdles, plus was third in both the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump.

Franklin, who finished fifth in the Class 4A state long jump competition in May, won the 18-and-under girls long jump, triple jump and 100-meter hurdles and was fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Dijoun Sheppard won the boys 16-and-under long jump and was second in the triple jump.

DaKayla Reed also won the girls 16-and-under long jump.

More than 2,200 athletes competed at the regional meet in hopes of qualifying for The Games of Texas on July 24-27 in San Antonio.
