The Caddo Mills Foxes had a good day, according to Offensive Lineman Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Chawn Cooper, at the Texas Lineman Challenge 2009 State Championship in Duncanville.
The event was at the Duncanville Panther Stadium Wednesday for defensive and offensive lineman only.
The championship is made up of eight different events including bench press for reps, medicine ball throw, hand-over-hand sled pull, sled drag, farmers walk, sand bag load, team truck push and team tire flip.
“You compete with five kids from each school in each event,” said Cooper. “Then they have a total at the end of the day as to the individual champions and the overall team champions in each classification from 1A to 5A.”
Caddo Mills was declared the 2A champions for the event.
“We had an awesome day,” said Cooper. “We were expecting to do well because we won state last year in the 2A Division. We were hoping to finish in the top three and our kids won it in the 2A division. It was really a great day for us.”
Caddo Mills place first in the 2A Division with 34 points, a full eight points ahead of second place, and finished in 18th place overall, from 1A to 5A, out of 41 teams.
In the bench press for reps Caddo Mills finished first in the 2A division and sixth overall. In the team truck push they took first in their division and 13th overall. In the medicine ball throw Caddo Mills took first in the 2A Division and in the sandbag carry they finished first in their division and first overall
“Dalton Spurgin was the fastest out of 280 kids in the sand bag load,” said Cooper. “Keagan Block was fifth place overall in the sand bag load and Justin Reader was ninth place overall in the hand-over-hand sled pull.”
In the overall individual competition, out of 280 kids, Dalton Spurgin was 13th out of 1A through 5A kids.
“He had a really good day for our smallest guy,” said Cooper.
Aside from Spurgin and Block, Cody Shoshtrom, Genero Ocanas, Justin Reader, Jason Bair, Zack Merritt, Brandon Blain and Josh Jackson represented Caddo Mills at the event.
