Greenville 14-under stars Directors title

By DAVID CLAYBOURN

GREENVILLE The Greenville 14-and-under all-stars were missing one of their top players and a coach, but that didn’t stop them from completing an undefeated run through the Pony Directors baseball tournament on Saturday.

Greenville outscored the Sachse All-Stars 12-5 to capture the Pony Division title at the Greenville SportsPark. Greenville jumped out to a 7-1 lead and hung on for the victory though they were without catcher Jerry Don Dickeson and his dad Jerry Dickeson, who were on a family outing.

Josh Scroggins and Jordan Ryan handled the pitching duties for Greenville.

Austin Hooten led the Greenville stars at the plate with a two-run triple. Trevor White and Chris Hazlett both slugged doubles and Ryan drove in a run with a single.

Greenville finished 5-0 in the tournament including pool play wins of 6-3 over Sachse, 9-1 over Whitesboro and 9-4 over East Fork and then a 12-0 blanking of Whitesboro in Friday night’s semifinals.

Sachse made the finals with an 11-1 waltz on Friday night over East Fork.

In the 12-and-under Bronco Division, the East Fork All-Stars finished at 5-0 with a 12-4 victory over the Greenville All-Stars in the finals. Blake Cummings went 3-for-3 at the plate for East Fork, while Connor Wiser, Ryan Reed Nixon and Mason Sargeant all pounded two hits apiece.

Travis Koger, Andrew Nichols and Coleton Lasseter all rapped two hits apiece and drove in runs to lead Greenville. Mason Burk also tripled and Jacob Jarvis was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Greenville gave East Fork its toughest challenge in the finals after falling to the same team by a 17-1 margin in pool play on Thursday. East Fork also downed Quinlan 24-0, the Irving Rangers 12-1 and then Quinlan again 14-0 in Friday’s semifinals.

Greenville’s All-Stars outlasted the Irving Rangers 10-8 in Saturday’s semifinals before taking on East Fork in 100-degree heat.

In the 10-and-under Mustang Division, East Fork reversed a 9-4 loss to the Greenville Blaze on Friday to down the Greenville team 11-8 in Saturday’s championship game. Isreal Duran’s key single helped East Fork to victory. East Fork took charge with a four-run third inning. East Fork’s players were composed of players from Farmersville, Blue Ridge and the Bland school district.

East Fork also downed the Rains Wildcats 13-10 in Saturday’s semifinals while the Greenville Blaze got past Rowlett.

Texas Sport Black from Rockwall won the 8-and-under Pinto Division, outscoring East Fork 16-11 in the finals.

Luke scored three runs to lead the Texas Sport Black, which also picked up two runs apiece from Torey, Casey, Kyle and Cade.

Graham led East Fork with three runs and Givens scored twice.

Texas Sport Black advanced to the finals with an 18-13 victory over the Rowlett All-Stars on Saturday morning while East Fork downed Sachse 27-18.
